The most secure anchoring system: concrete base with galvanised rod

The trellis post anchor with concrete base and galvanised rod is the most reliable solution for securing vineyard end posts, particularly on sloped terrain and under extreme conditions. Holding power comes from the mass of the concrete plus the friction of the soil above it.

When to choose the concrete base

This is the anchor for long rows and heavy canopies, where the accumulated wire tension is highest. Wire tension on a vineyard end post commonly reaches 400 to 1,500 kg, depending on wire count and gauge; on sites at the upper end of that range, the concrete base is the safer specification.

It is slower to install than a screw-in anchor and requires excavation, which makes it better suited to new plantings than to retrofits on rows already in production.

The alternative: helical anchors

On soft, stone-free soils, helical ground anchors screw directly into the ground with no excavation and allow immediate wire tensioning. Faster and more agile, but with lower peak holding capacity than the concrete base.

In soft or sandy ground, an anchor plate spreads the load across a wider surface and prevents the post from sinking.

Sizing the anchor
