Vine posts, also known as vineyard line posts or intermediate posts, support the trellis along the whole row, season after season. Sika manufactures two main types of steel vine posts: galvanised vineyard posts and corten vineyard posts. Both meet the needs of modern vineyard management. US growers also call them grape vine posts.
Sections and dimensions
Sika vine posts come in three sections. You can match the profile to row length, canopy weight and local wind exposure:
- Small — 51 x 33 mm
- Medium — 51 x 41 mm
- Big — 65 x 45 mm
Steel thickness starts from 1.5 mm, depending on section and finish. The range also includes the tubular Orbit profile, 61 x 50 mm, and the Cortina J-slot profile, 65 x 45 mm. Galvanised and corten steel vine posts
Galvanised vineyard posts offer outstanding resistance to corrosion. The hot-dip version protects the steel even in the most aggressive environments. For this reason, it suits sites with high humidity or intensive spray programmes and ensures a long service life.
Corten vine posts, on the other hand, offer an attractive alternative. Their natural rust-coloured finish blends beautifully with the landscape. Moreover, their patina protects the steel and regenerates after every scratch. At equal profile and thickness, corten posts cost on average 20% less than the galvanised equivalent.
How vine posts and end posts work together
Each vine post carries the load of a single span. Vineyard end posts, instead, absorb the combined tension of every wire in the row. For this reason, they need larger sections: Mini Strong 56 x 46 mm and Strong 68 x 56 mm.
End posts sit at both ends of each row and bear the weight of wires, nets and fully loaded vines. They also absorb the tension from vine growth and bad weather. Sika offers both types in galvanised steel and corten, so every grower can choose the right solution for the site.

Cold roll forming
Sika shapes its posts at room temperature through cold roll forming. Unlike hot processes, this method preserves the mechanical properties of the steel. As a result, the post is stronger at equal section. Cold forming also lets us tailor profiles to specific vineyard needs. In addition, the posts are easier to handle and install in the field.
